Committee Topics

  • Topic I:

Although Florence looks peaceful, it has been reeking with hidden political tension. The Medici have used public festivals to show themselves as loved while also secretly strengthening their grip on power. Assassination, military intervention, propaganda, or economic sabotage are all several possible strategies to overthrow the Medici family that the Pazzi and their allies have. Assassination is quick, but it has its severe risks associated with failure. Military troops will make the citizens of Florence to view the Pazzis as invaders. Propaganda and economics are both too slow. The Medicis must be ousted, and the way this happens is up to you.

  • Topic II:

If the Medici are removed from power, a new government must be created in Florence. This is needed to ensure another all-powerful family doesn’t take over the government. There are many systems of governments that can be placed into effect at Florence such as oligarchies, democratic republics, or even some sort of a papal government. However, each system has its own shortcomings, such as slow decision making, loss of independence, or the risk of another elite domination. If the Medicis are removed, it is imperative that a stable government be placed upon Florence.
